About this listen

After a much longed-for reunion, Jason Asano works on moving past old traumas as he looks to a brighter future.

Despite warnings of danger that awaits him, he gets back in the saddle as an adventurer, ready to tackle new challenges.

But as enemies that have lurked in the background start moving into the light, those challenges are not hard to find.

Jason and his friends don’t wait passively; they use schemes of their own to take the fight to the enemy. His companions find themselves plunged into dangerous missions and confronted with enemies both personal and unexpected.

Jason will push new boundaries, and while it comes at a cost, it will move him deeper into the realms of cosmic power.

I didn’t want it to end - so much more to this epic story. Hate the wait between each one.

Great 8th instalment

After so many books, the characters have really begun to feel like friends. This book really brings the group back together.

Can’t wait for the next book.

felt a bit like a filler for the full story with some fast paced advancement due to conflicts that felt small scale but I liked the character development.

strong addition

First of all, this book is sooo much better than book 7.

These are my main points about the book/series.

1) I’ve found recently that the MC moping about with his “issues” is annoying. while I understand the need for it (authenticity as people living his life must find the hard choices just so) all the time he’s moping about, the brilliantly written comedy is lost. This book feels as comedic as the first couple of books, which I love!

2) The books are soo long, and there’s a lot of them, yet for some reason I find they are nowhere near long enough! I’ve never read hundreds of hours worth of a series and not felt even a little bored, that shows what an amazing series this is!

Now my critiques:

1) the narrator (Heath Miller) is too good! To the point that I want to know what happens next but I cannot read it online because if it’s not read to me by heath then it’s not he who fights with monsters. So now I have to wait months to find out what happens next… thanks a lot heath! :D

2) I know that in order to keep it authentic, that emotional turmoil comes with Jason’s job, but try and keep it to the bare minimum required for authenticity, because every time I hit a depressing chapter it’s making me depressed because it’s eating into the precious 18 hours of the book, and we know the job takes it’s toll, because I’ve read about 16 times before already.

3) I’d like a little more romance, because you write it well (like with asya) and then you went and killed her off!! Lol

In conclusion, in all seriousness, this series is phenomenal. Since reading this I’ve read a dozen or so lit rpg books and while some are good, non compare to this, and imo, it’s the Whitty comedy of the mc that makes it stand out, and because of that, I think you could write 20 books and it will still be amazing!

Back to being 6 out of 5!

Excellent continuation of the story so far.
Personally, I would’ve preferred a bit more adventuring and more interrelationship exploring. I’m hoping/guessing this will come with the next book.
Other than than that. Heath’s performance was without much fault again and enjoyable to listen to.
Looking forward to the next one in the series.

Excellent continuation
