Summary

A senior American security adviser is missing, presumed kidnapped for his top-level military intelligence. FBI Assistant Director Martha Meyerstein needs to track him down before classified information gets into the wrong hands. She needs Jon Reznick on board.

The former black-ops assassin is supposed to be on vacation with his daughter, but when Meyerstein calls, it doesn't pay to keep her waiting. Her elite team is convinced that the missing diplomat's expertise in the Persian Gulf points to an Iranian terrorist cell, but Reznick isn't so sure. His gut instinct tells him they're all wrong. Never one to play by the rules, he finds himself working alone, following a lead that everyone else has dismissed. But to Reznick, the suspect seems a little too clean...

When the team comes under attack, the kidnapping is exposed as part of a much wider conspiracy, one far more dangerous than Meyerstein feared. Nothing and nobody is safe - and only Jon Reznick stands between national security and a campaign of unprecedented terror.

Better than the first

This is the second book in this series & very enjoyable with an original storyline. However, I'm put out by a couple of things: Why was there no overt admission of getting it wrong and admitting that Jon was right! And why did she foolishly allow him to use the bathroom? Every one could see that coming!!! That was disappointing.

But this is an enjoyable series - only 5 titles thus far.

Good assassin read and listen..

Another exciting story about Jon Reznick helping the FBI catch a killer. Unfortunately, this book made a lot of the politicians in our government look really bad. AND the killer ended up getting away. Maybe he’ll show up in another book.

Reznick worked with Martha Meyerstein again but I gotta say no one seems to sleep in these books.
Reznick is forever popping Dexedrine and he and Martha drink tons of coffee, as if that’s the cure for never needing sleep. It’s really kind of silly.

Also, one reviewer gave it 1 or 2 stars because Martha, as Assistant Director of the FBI, went out into the field, Martha being “middle age” and all. Well, Martha is in her 30’s and if that’s “middle age” then I’m ancient.

This was a very good story and again I totally enjoyed it. There wasn’t any kind of sex or thoughts of sex but the F-bomb was used 57 times.

As to the narration: Jeffery Kafer, again, has a great reading voice and his men are perfect but his women’s voices still stink AND still I don’t mind. If there had been any kind of romance I would have minded.

YUP another good Jon Reznick book!

I like this series! its fun, fast paced, full of action, terrorists, espionage, assassins, conspiracies and an the FBI consultant, Jon Reznick a former assassin. .

Packed full of everything you want in a good book. It never stops. And they never sleep. LOL

There is lots of dialogue throughout this book. Which is a bonus, I love lots of dialogue. There are some great characters and although Martha is only in her 30's they make her seem older. I wish they would stop doing that.

The story line and plot was great easy to follow along without getting lost or confused which is a plus for sure.

As for the narration it is very good. I like Jeffrey Kafer, he does a great job on all the voices and the female voices. He has a nice reading voice too.

I totally recommend this series.

A must buy audible.

Yes this Jon Reznick series is a fun listen filled with multiple red herrings to keep the listener engaged. Kaffer once again does an outstanding job in his narration just as he did in book one.

Ok

Book had a decent story line and a good ending. Was entirely pleased with narrator. Not a good contrast between characters. Like story though.

Ok but not as good as the 1st

Jon Resnick was in this story but he was not the main character imo. I waited and waited and waited for a good fight scene, a shootout, memorable badass quotes from Jon...still waiting. The 1st book in the series, focused more on Jon getting the job done. This 2nd book has him working on a team. Not what I expected or liked. The plot was too intricate for more liking but if you like twists and subplots, you will love this book. It wasn't a bad story it just wasn't fast pasted and action-packed. All the 'good guys' seemed to be fumbling the entire time. The 'bad guys' were robotic. I really didn't care what happened to any of them. Jon should've gone to see his daughter like he intended. If you're wanting more of 'Hard Road', you wont get it . This was more of a meet and greet of Martha's team. I will still give book 3 a chance but its solely based on book 1.

Hard Kill

Great!! Another super Jon Resnick thriller. I heartily endorse these J.B. Turner novels. They would make superb miniseries ala Bosch or J.P. Ryan.

The language (GD and F) off putting

Great story, great narration! The only downside is the persistence of foul language by all characters.

Super cliche and thin

This is a shallow story with ludicrous personal interplay throughout. The voicing is distressingly flat and far too serious. Listen to an RC Bray narration and you will understand. Every voice is precisely the same.
