Summary

A friend in danger. A shadowy psych ward. A conspiracy beyond Reznick's worst nightmares.

When an old Delta Force buddy comes to Jon Reznick for help, paranoid and fearing for his life, Reznick feels duty-bound to protect him. As a black-ops specialist, loyalty to his brothers in arms comes before everything - even the law.

But Jerry White proves difficult to protect. A runaway from a top-security psychiatric facility in upstate New York, he's considered a danger to himself and others, and Reznick is powerless to stop shadowy senior hospital managers taking Jerry back by force. When FBI Assistant Director Martha Meyerstein warns him off, Reznick ignores her advice, suspecting the Wittenden Institute is not what it seems.

Digging deeper into the hospital's background - and that of its esteemed manager, Dr. Robert Gittinger - Reznick begins to unravel a sinister plot that will bring warzone black ops to American soil. And when his own life comes under threat, he discovers that Jerry is trapped in a web of high-level conspiracies more terrifying than anything he has ever encountered...

enjoyable story

another good book from J B Turner. enjoyable and pretty well written with out being spectacular. easy listening, although I do believe the narrator could sometimes use more intonation in his voice, as he can be a bit monotone.

Reznick to the rescue!!!!

What a great addition to the John Reznick series.
I won't restate the plot, the publisher's summary lays it out perfectly. For me to say more would only spoil this.
What I will say is that if you're looking for a well written book that is a high stakes, action packed thriller (Audible lists it as political but it's a thriller ) then this is the book for you!
Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job narrating.
If you have kindle unlimited this book is $7.47.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this entire series.

Thank You.

J.B. Turner packs a lot of action and suspense...

...into his novels without sacrificing his great plots. Just read the publisher's summary for the perfect setup. Hard Fall is a very intense suspense mystery with strong political undertones. The novel is standalone, but like most series the Jon Reznick novels are more enjoyable listened to in order. Jeffrey Kafer narrates all of the Reznick series. He does an excellent job.

Love this Series

Let me just say, Jon Resnick is who you want when you’re in trouble and not who you want to see coming when you ARE the trouble. Non-stop action, great story line every. time.,every. book. If you like a no nonsense, patriot to the core hero, Jon’s your guy.

I can’t listen to another one of these books.

This is the third one I’ve listened to. I read a lot of espionage books so I feel I can review this competently. First, Resnik is so inept compared to other book characters that it’s unbelievable he would survive one book. Everyone is incompetent - from the FBI, to the police, to the black operatives. If you really want to read a credible story read Barry Eisler’s John Rains series. But this is so bad I just can’t read/listen anymore.

Slow and Unbelieveable

Barely held my interest. Several instances were simply not believeable. Not one of his better books.

good read

The intrigue beginson the first page and continues throughout. Interesting plot, a different twist on the madness and inhumanity of the CIA. I enjoy the arguments between following the law and doing the right thing.

Just love, love, love me some Jon Reznick

Narrator is always on point. Like a good martini, dry with a sharp bite. The characters are growing in trust, crafting real relationships. Meyerstein has issues. She wants Jon's out-of-box thinking and skills-set, but she spends so much time questioning every move he makes, even when she clearly shouldn't be. After he rescued her in the previous book, that trust should be greater, not less. Left to government tactics alone, she would never have been found. They need to have a 2 week long Reznick "boot camp", 1st week Jon teaching the team how to think out of the box while moving in nature, practicing surveillance his way, with each participant bringing something they personally know how to do to share with the others. 2nd week, how Reznick would schedule a think-tank meeting on 5-7 crossover investigation situations. After that, it'd be a blast to see how they work together. Its highly unlikely that this would ever happen. But that's why I love Reznick. He questions, yes, but follows his gut instincts. He's not a paper-pusher. He investigates when others want to just let things go, or better yet, get suited up, eat, drink, wait for and read reports being "civilized." Well that kind civilized is exactly why government "things" take so long to get done. Meantime, people lose hope of help, get killed, etc. Jon knows there's a time to sit tight and "think", but everybody needs to be brought together in crisis times. Jon Reznick is a "man of thoughtfully executed action, loyalties and patience". If and when Meyerstein gets truly on board, the whole team will work together better
