About this listen

Some questions don’t fade with time—they wait.

Camila Reyes has built a peaceful life as a school counselor, years removed from the chaos of her early beginnings. But a birthday gift from a friend—a DNA test—unearths a secret she never expected: a half-sister.

What begins as cautious messages soon opens a door to a past Camila never knew she was missing. With every new detail, she finds herself unraveling the stories she was told and confronting the silence she’s lived with for decades.

Set against a backdrop of longing, identity, and quiet strength, Half of Me is a deeply personal and fictional journey of discovery, reconnection, and healing. For anyone who’s ever wondered about the missing pages in their story, this novel reminds us: even in the absence of answers, we can still find meaning, and even in imagined lives—we find truth.

Half of Me is one of those rare stories that lingers in your heart long after it ends. I loved most about this audiobook was how emotionally authentic it felt—Camila’s journey of self-discovery, triggered by something as simple as a DNA test, was both heartbreaking and hopeful. Linda Sanchez captures the quiet ache of unanswered questions and the courage it takes to face them beautifully. It’s a gentle, powerful reminder that healing often begins with the courage to ask who we truly are.

I am not adopted. Nor am I close to anyone who is. But I chose this book because I wanted to understand some of the struggles adopted adults face as they discover their birth parents and circumstances. I appreciated the courage, myriad of emotions, the loss, the anger, the acceptance..., in short, Camila's discovery process played out before me. Abuela and her adoptive mother's reactions saddened me. But I'm guessing that's many folks' reality.

Thanks, Ms. Sanchez. Your book showed me how to come along someone going through a similar journey. .

This book is really good. I like the part to regulate the emotions. One chapter I like is the one healing from the past traumas and the practical tool for every day challenges. Another good part was the strategies. This is not just a book with theory, it has practical information. Also, the audio and narrator are good and easy to listen and follow.
