Editor reviews

Kids studying history will enjoy Great Speeches in History, an audiobook that brings the past alive through spirited reenactments of Western history's greatest orators. Performances from gifted actors like Norman Rodway, Samuel West, Elizabeth Bell, and Peter Markiner add drama and emotional intensity to speeches that move through history, from Socrates and William the Conqueror through to Patrick Henry and suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst. More than simply speeches, this collection teaches listeners about the social and political issues affecting people from Ancient Greece into the early 20th century.

Summary

From Socrates to Charles I, Danton to Lincoln - here are some of history's most significant figures with their most important speeches. Fighting for justice, for freedom of speech, and sometimes even for their own lives, these orators demonstrate the finest resources of language in the service of the most dramatic issues of their day.

which history?

the title of this book should have been, great speeches in the history of the west and in particular Britain and North America ... the narroters are excellent, so do some of the speeches, which were all made either at time of sturgle, of war or of facing death.
