About this listen

What do you do when God is silent? Writing out of the pain of his wife's fight for life, but also the wonder of watching the prayer movement they founded touch many lives, Pete Greig wrestles with the dark side of prayer and emerges with a hard-won message of hope, comfort, and profound biblical insight for all who suffer in silence.

Pete Greig, the acclaimed author of Red Moon Rising, has written his most intensely personal and honest account yet in God on Mute, a book born out of his wife Sammy's fight for her life and diagnosis of a debilitating brain tumor. Greig asks the timeless questions of what it means to suffer and to pray and to suffer through the silence because your prayers seem unanswered. This silence, Greig relates, is the hardest thing. The world collapses. Then all goes quiet. Words can't explain, don't fit, won't work. People avoid you and don't know what to say. So you turn to him and you pray. You need him more than ever before. But somehow...even God himself seems on mute. In this heart-searching, honest, and deeply profound book, Pete Greig looks at the hard side of prayer, how to respond when there seem to be no answers, and how to cope with those who seek to interpret our experience for us. Here is a story of faith, hope, and love beyond all understanding.

I highly recommend this to christians everywhere, whether you are struggling with unanswered prayer or are fortunate to not be in that place right now.
So many books on prayer are full of theories and promises. The challenge for many of us is that life doesn’t look like that much of the time and this can often shake our faith in Jesus to the core.
Pete Greig explores and examines unanswered prayer as one who has gone through the struggles and yet, found beauty in that place. His honest and, at times, raw testimony is refreshing and enables us to sit in that place of question with him. The integrity with which he shares opens up the gospel to us through the journey of Easter including, the space found on Easter Saturday.
As we listen we are invited to engage with unanswered prayer, as a place we can grow and strengthen our relationship with Jesus.

Pete Greggs books are always thought provoking and full of hope. Unanswered prayer can be tough and you can ask were is God in this? If there is a God, why does he let bad things happen? This is a great book that compassionately deals with these questions. It includes the testimonies of holocaust survivors and is good for both Christians and Jews alike. Many rabbi’s have also lent their testimonies of prayer. Brilliant.

Such a seminal book on prayer

I identified myself with many of the life conundrums in this book. I too have been deflated by untrue expectations and wrong teaching. I thank God for the enlightenment brought by this book. It has opened my eyes and vision to embrace Gods will whatever that might be for my life. Thank you.

Very helpful
