About this listen

In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris's, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos. With eloquent clarity, Hitchens frames the argument for a more secular life based on science and reason, in which the heavens are replaced by the Hubble Telescope's awesome view of the universe, and Moses and the burning bush give way to the beauty and symmetry of the double helix.

Exceptional book written with intelligent, open standpoints that give clarity to Hitchens perspective in an entertaining yet thoughtful way. Coming from a childhood dominated by the fear driven control of a Christian religion (my experience) I only wish I could have listened to this as a teenager. I find Hitchens whole manner to be driven by a genuine desire to reflect truth, facts and science to better educate the world in spite of religious zealots. His purpose is clear to give us the chance to make an informed choice for our life based on real understanding rather than fear driving it. Loved the book.

Everyone should read this book and do so with an open mind. In the unlikely even of this happening, the world would surely be a better place.
