My children constantly ask why the GCSE syllabus cannot be an introduction to British history rather than a somewhat esoteric dive into Weimar, Nazi Germany and Russia. This book really is an excellent insight into the history of France recounted with expert emphasis at the right points and light humour by JJN. You can't help but feel the love he has for France and the infectious diction pulls you along a very long, fascinating and detailed history filled with facts and a little conjecture too! Thoroughly enjoyed the book and will no doubt return for a second listen to revise my history.
