Summary

The first original novel tying into the critically acclaimed and much-missed Firefly series from creator Joss Whedon

The Battle of Serenity Valley was the turning point that led the Independents to their defeat at the hands of the Alliance. Yet the Browncoats had held the valley for weeks against all odds, before being ordered to lay down their arms. Command stated they refused to send in airpower because the ground war was "too hot". But the soldiers who were there insist that was not true....

While picking up a new cargo on Persephone, Captain Malcolm Reynolds is kidnapped by a bunch of embittered veteran Browncoats who suspect him of sabotaging the Independents during the war. As the rest of the crew struggle to locate him, Mal is placed on trial for his life, fighting compelling evidence that someone did indeed betray them to the Alliance all those years ago. As old comrades and old rivals crawl out of the woodwork, Mal must prove his innocence, but his captors are desperate and destitute, and will settle for nothing less than the culprit’s blood.

If you’ve got a sequel we’ll read it, don’t much care what it is, but very pleased that it was good.

What I can easily imagine as the plot of an episode but extended into a book.
The characters, for me, are all who I think they should be captured effectively and in keeping with the originals.
Everything seems to fit the original verse and I didn’t get jared out of the story by anything contradicting or seeming out of place.
I like the Narrator, he does a great job with the characters.
Firefly book series, a tall order, but done good.
Shiny.

Take me out to the black!

I loved absolutely every minute of it! It was like getting episode 1 of a 2nd season... an episode that was over NINE fantastic hours long! We get some new information and insight regarding some crew members, but nothing not in keeping with established canon (thank you for having Joss Whedon involved!) - overall, it was great!

The narrator did a good job of capturing the unique "sound" of each character, without trying to impersonate or "sound" like the actors that made the characters famous - and while I'll admit I would have preferred Nathan Fillion as a narrator (I mean, c'mon - right?) I think the narrator did a great job, and I hope they keep him for the whole series (and I hope the series never ends)!

Browncoats forever!

Welcome back to the 'verse.

Welcome back to the 'verse. Excellent story that stood up on its own. Narrator could do a solid Cap'n, and performed well enough with the rest of the team. And as part of the Serenity story, this fit right in and could easily been the first episode of season 2. Listen to this one. I guarantee you will enjoy. Get a job, keep flying.
