I know a number of people have not enjoyed this. It is true that it lays out the family history. I am not one who generally likes being given historical facts whether they be real or fiction. But this has the same sense and feel that was given to The Game of Throne series and each individual has been given his or her own personality. I like the 'evidence' or 'non evidence' for how things came to be, giving the book it's own sense of reality. I loved listening to Roy Dotrice telling the Game of Thrones and Simon Vance is also an excellent narrator. Would like the other books to be finally published and narrated!! Come on George! Love the TV series but there is so much more colour in the books and would love for those who can't see to be able to hear it all!

This is a comprehensive history of the Targaryen dynasty, in the style of Thomas B Costain. So if your expecting a fantasy novel steer clear I would say that only hard core fans of ASOIAF and those who enjoy history novels such as the one mentioned above would enjoy it

content was fantastic but much like real royalty the same names or similar names are used again and again and a few times i'd get lost in the sheer depth of whos who.

the reader was excellent and the detail was incredible and the stories genuinly interesting and darkly funny in true GRRM style.

just be aware this isnt a book you can zone out and listen too. You really need to pay attention.

I lied the likes and clear influence of real history, such as competitions, the role of a monarchy or monarchies at the start of the conquest.
I did not like the the betrayal, the crime , the harm .
I would recommend this to friends and I have chosen the star ratings because each one has earned this and I feel that it a very good book.

i will say this book will not be for all A Song of Ice and Fire fans! It is not written in the rraditi9nal narrative style but instead as an academic historical account of the Targaryen dynasty. If that sounds interesting to you, you will likely enjoy this book. I have seen mention that the material is repeated, but this is only partially true. This book has added a lot of expanded material that had not been seen before. A great book if you know what you're getting into and are a lover of world building!
