Armstrong completely drew me in, and reminded me why Armstrong is one of my favorite authors.

This story is all about characters that feel real, flawed, and emotionally present. The slow build works beautifully here — the relationships, the tension, and the quiet moments are given space to grow naturally. Nothing feels rushed or artificial. Instead, the story unfolds with warmth, honesty, and just enough emotional weight to keep me fully invested from start to finish.

I especially appreciated how grounded the setting feels. Whiskey Spring isn’t just a backdrop; it’s part of the story, shaping the characters and their choices. The emotional beats land because they’re subtle and earned, and the dialogue feels authentic rather than polished for effect.

The audiobook experience is excellent. Jill Smith delivers a strong, confident narration that supports the story without overshadowing it. Her pacing is spot-on, the emotional nuances are handled with care, and she brings a natural flow to the dialogue that makes the listening experience smooth and immersive.

As the first book in the Whiskey Spring series, Open Tab is a fantastic start. If you enjoy character-driven stories with emotional depth, genuine connection, and thoughtful storytelling, this one is absolutely worth your time.

Highly recommended — and I’m very much looking forward to continuing the series.

Jill smith has made it an absolute pleasure to hear from start to finish. No faults!
I recommend this book to anyone that has 5+ hours free to listen, as once you start you won’t stop until the end (and then mope around while waiting for the next in the series)

This is a fantastic captivating storyline set in a small town. I was hooked by the drama, the love, the people of this town, wonderful characters that left me wanting more and more. So I will be buying audio book 2 of this delightful series.💖
