About this listen

A love story about opening your heart, by Rainbow Rowell, the New York Times bestselling author of Eleanor & Park.

Cath and Wren are identical twins, and until recently they did absolutely everything together. Now they're off to university and Wren's decided she doesn't want to be one half of a pair any more – she wants to dance, meet boys, go to parties and let loose. It's not so easy for Cath. She's horribly shy and has always buried herself in the fan fiction she writes, where she always knows exactly what to say and can write a romance far more intense than anything she's experienced in real life.

Without Wren, Cath is completely on her own and totally outside her comfort zone. She's got a surly room-mate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can't stop worrying about her dad, who's loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

Now Cath has to decide whether she's ready to open her heart to new people and new experiences, and she's realizing that there's more to learn about love than she ever thought possible . . .

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell comes with special bonus material; the first chapter from Rainbow's irresistible novel Carry On.

Critic reviews

Absolutely captivating
A funny and tender coming-of-age story that's also the story of a writer finding her voice...touching and utterly real.
Authentic dialogue, a remarkable empathy with adolescents and an honest portrayal of young, vulnerable love make this a riveting read.
This novel is funny, sad, clever and entertaining.
A treat for teenage girls on the lookout for a novelistic take on first love... clever enough to keep you reading on.

This is a great look at the struggle of being a new person in a new place. I wish I had this when I had started university but was definitely grateful when I started school again. As with most Young Adult books there was a romance that had an issue and there was a lack of communication which I normally find annoying but I was able to overlook this as the story was able to shine through and the romance was secondary to the overarching theme of being yourself and the fact that you will get through a change no matter how impossible it seems.

Great Read!

I have listened to this book more than once now and I still love it so much. The characters are all amazing, the story flows at a brilliant pace, and it makes my heart flutter. I fall in love with Levi every time I hear it.
Rainbow Rowell is amazing and Rebecca Lowman is the perfect narrator for this.

I Can’t Get Enough of This book

The story was OK but the Harry Potter esqe readings made me cringe! I was never into that type of fiction so really struggled to relate. The reader though is wonderful and really captures the book and characters.

Story was sweet but not for me

Nice concept, but could do with some more concrete pointers on the fictional book. This could have added so much more depth to the storyline with options to branch out and expand some characters.

Has much more potential
