Finished it!! Quite an achievement.
Ms Cleverly knows a thing or two about British society in the 1920's and has crow barred most of it into this novel. Sexism, feminism, homophobia, nepotism, misogyny, STD's, etc etc etc. The somewhat circuitous plot would be a lot shorter without the constant woman-splaining. It would also be somewhat shorter if it had been read a little more swiftly, I was temped to turn up the tempo but as it was after all free, and it was raining.

Intelligent & engaging
Both in literary quality and plot vastly better than the usual run of murder mysteries. I'd like to hear more of this Cambridge-based detective...

Well read, no Americanisms.
Others have indicated this story as slow. It suited the academic and historical era. As an East Anglian resident, the setting and flowing story appeals to me. Kept guessing until the end.
