Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of F*** You Cancer, written and read by Deborah James.

As seen on BBC Breakfast.

You are stronger than you know, more positive than you ever thought, and you can still live with cancer.

Drink more green juices, eat turmeric, walk for three hours a day.... Arghh, I wanted to scream, run away and tell every well-meaning person to go and do one!! The barrage of cure cancer advice that came my way when I was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer was enough to make anyone feel overloaded, let alone at a time when you are trying to get your head around having the Big C at the age of 35! I wanted hope and I wanted to feel normal, to drink wine, buy nice shoes and go to the pub - but all the advice I came across told me to cut out pretty much everything and retreat into my cancer cave.

Whilst this book doesn’t advocate throwing everything down the kitchen sink, it will help you to navigate your feelings through the big C roller coaster, remind you that it’s okay to feel 100 different things in the space of a minute and, most importantly, show you that you can still live your life and be yourself with cancer.

From diagnosis (welcome to the club you never wanted to join) and surviving chemo through to how to cope with family and friends (can everyone just fuck off sometimes), managing the huge mental roller coaster, looking good (lipstick is your best friend) and feeling better (drink the wine), and celebrating milestones (drink more wine), F*** You Cancer is your uplifting cancer coach in a book.

Packed with top tips, laugh out loud stories, insider advice and heartwarming case studies it will transform your mood and encourage you to shout #fuckoffcancer as loudly as you can!

Helpful & heartbreaking

I purchased this just to learn more about life with c as a family member is living with it and I wanted to know more. As a long time follower of Deborah's I had tears at the end of this audiobook.
And more than anything, it's taught me to enjoy everyday and live your life! ♡

remarkable book by a remarkable woman

I loved this book and wish I had found it when I was starting my journey with cancer, but I found it now and it's given me perspective and helped me examine that time, it also brought back memories of things I have been shocked to discover I've forgotten, like lugging around my chemo pump for 4 days every 2 weeks. please purchase this book you won't regret it.

Possibly the most useful advice about dealing with the big C out there.

Luckily for me I don’t have cancer (so far), but close to several people navigating this scary, confusing and painful path, and having lost my only sibling to this appalling disease, this book has made me a better friend, caregiver and wine/choc provider. Bless Dame D.

Great resource

Great resource for anyone either going through or caring for someone with cancer. I also recommend as a gift for someone that has just been diagnosed.

Fxxx You Cancer.

Don't know what to make of it.Having recently gone through bowel resection surgery..and not needing any further treatment..I think the roller coaster, she went on was nightmarish.. Obviously she was very driven..but I couldn't have gone on 'Performing'..,Hats off to a beautiful gutsy lady..She has done so much for raising awareness of a dreadful disease.

My cancer was picked up (EARLY) through national Bowel Cancer Screening. for people over 60.. The message Deborah puts across is cancer affects all ages.God bless her.

F*** you Cancer - so, so helpful & wonderful

Thank you so much to Deborah James for this book & her posts as ‘Bowel Babe’. I can hardly write this for tears. I had Stage 3 bowel cancer but had the ‘no sign of disease’ report in June 2020, after a bowel resection op & 6 months of chemo. In December 2020 I have been diagnosed with a large metastatic tumour on my ovary & a tumour in my liver. I need a big operation to remove both tumours & more chemo. Re-reading Deborah’s book has been calming, supportive & relatable; I too have two young children. Read it if you have cancer or are close to someone who does. It’s like therapy. Thank you Deborah (p.S. you were great on the BBC Breakfast news this morning 30.12.20)

Inspiring yet heart breaking

A very thought provoking and inspirational book aimed at people living with cancer, but also for those lucky enough not, to as it brings appreciation of life in an honest and truthful read/listen. You can hear and feel the emotion in Deborah’s voice as she shares her story which is heartbreaking at the same time as being truly humbling and humorous at times. Thank you.
