Max Seager was the best there was. His skills sharpened in the midst of a brutal African civil war, he was at once a policeman, soldier and detective - a tracker of men. He thought he’d left that life behind him, but then he learns that his particular expertise is required again. Two teenage girls have been abducted and are being held to ransom, hidden deep within the Zimbabwean bush that was once his hunting ground. The mother of one of the girls begs him to help and, unable to walk away, Max returns to Africa with a handpicked team of former comrades-in-arms.

Summary
From NY Times Best-selling author Bob Mayer:
A US Army Special Forces team carrying sterilized weapons and unmarked uniforms is on its way to Colombia. The mission: conduct covert, unilateral raids to destroy cocaine processing laboratories.
Of course nothing is as it seems especially once the CIA gets involved. Throw in an Israeli mercenary, betrayal and double-dealing in Washington and the team soon finds itself wondering what the real mission is.

Bob Mayer's first novel!
West Point graduate and US Army Green Beret has written (or coauthored in a few cases over 70 books, 55 of which are available at Audible. Eye of the Hammer, released in 1991, was his first novel. It is the first novel in 6 novel The Green Berets/Dave Riley series. This series has elements of both military thrillers and espionage thrillers. This entire series in in my Audible library; the quality is somewhat variable, but this one is outstanding. Steven Cooper narrates very well indeed.

Very military tech filled story
This was a fair story, if you like military jargon and tactical language this would be a good story for you. Very masculine in the execution of the story, which is fine as the genre is one I like but I know it is not for everyone. There are villains and they are well developed and the good guys are cut from the right fabric and are a very wholesome type of heroic man. The politics are well presented and roll within the fabric of the story without much friction. The story has some ability to build tension and has some surprises but in the end things work out like you expect, not that that is a disappointment, the ending is fine and produced with some excitement and leaves you feeling good about the world. If you like military styled masculine action stories then this would be a good pic. Recommended for that audience.

Well written - well read - an enjoyable story set in the modern day with modern troops. Detailed enough to make one feel like you are there, but not bogged down. Strong characters, compelling story - an excellent read.

Call me a fan!
Eyes of the Hammer was read out of order, or actually it was read to me via the Whispersync application with my Kindle Keyboard. I do enjoy the Audible offerings, listening when in the car, and reading when in private, but this one was enjoyed totally in audiobook format. I have been obtaining these books out of sequence, but each stands alone, and when I read one that should have been read before, it still makes sense and enhances my understanding of those read previously. The author has created strong story lines that are believable, strong character development, and lots of action with some mysteries thrown in. What more can one ask for?

Very realistic SFOD novel
This one was very realistic going thru the chain of command and procedures on how SF personal interact, prepare and execute missions. The ending was a little disappointing, not sure an SFOD man would behave the way the main character did to the civilian in the end, not important to the overall though, the very end could have been omitted anyway more of an epitaph, also he mixed up high schools, Dewitt Clinton is on Mosholu Parkway not Evander Childs HS.

A green beret writing about green berets feels right
I enjoyed the green beret series a few years back and am glad I'm listening to it again. Mayer's writing has evolved immensely from this book, and while it is not his best installment it is a military thriller that surpasses many others in competition.

Well-read and exciting
Would you listen to Eyes of the Hammer again? Why?
Yes. It's a fast-paced, exciting book.
Have you listened to any of Steven Cooper’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've also listened to the Jefferson Allegiance. All of his performances have been very impressive.

Good Story but Tire of the Big Bad Evil System
What did you like best about Eyes of the Hammer? What did you like least?
The lead character is nicely developed and the story itself is good.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
yes, it was a good plot and story line.
What aspect of Steven Cooper’s performance would you have changed?
He needs to do a little more research on pronunciation of military terminology.
Could you see Eyes of the Hammer being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Sure, Hollywood would love this anti-military and anti-CIA plot line. Maybe even Woody Harrelson or Sean Penn. You could even have Rachel Maddow play the seasoned Green Beret Warrant Officer.

Average special force fare
It took me a while to get used to the drawl of the narrator, but with time I don't have a problem with any accent or dialect. The story itself is engaging enough, although nothing ground breaking. this was a daily deal, and as such a good purchase, however, not worth a credit for me.
