Mark Broadie is at the forefront of a revolutionary new approach to the game of golf. What does it take to drop ten strokes from your golf score? What part of Tiger Woods’ game makes him a winner? Traditional golf stats can't answer these questions. Broadie, a professor at Columbia Business School, helped the PGA Tour develop its cutting-edge strokes gained putting stat. In this eye-opening new book, Broadie uses analytics from the financial world to uncover the secrets of the game of golf. This was probably decent when it was first released, but if you have a vague understanding of Strokes Gained and/or Decade (which is based on this) then save yourself the read/listen.

Mathematical stats galore

The book starts stating how the importance of putting is over rated. Then it has 3 chapters on putting statistics. Very little of it useful other than you need to put well and strike the ball well to improve. Amazing. Very dull read with lots of uninteresting (to me) computing facts and history.

After all the stats, it appears we need to work on our putting, Our tee shots, Our approach shots. Kind of what I knew before reading the book. Now I know millions of stats back this up.

Didn’t help my game. Pointless stats that can’t be applied for the amateur averaging low 80’s wanting to get into the 70’s

Felt like listening to an 6 hour television commercial. Not a good one, one of these you might hear in a garden centre selling useless kitchen gadgets.

Interesting stats, but awful narration
