I was looking for an introduction to Spanish history, a global vision rather than concentrated on one period and this book totally gave me the information I wanted. It is full of engaging anecdotes that will retain your attention. I appreciated the chapters regarding more recent history too. The book is well read and an easy listen.

Great audiobook which moved at the right pace through Al Andalus/Spain's intricate history and kept me intrigued throughout. From the editorial approach of Ghosts of Spain to the historical exercise of International Brigades, Tremlett has shown that he can stand with the Hoopers and Prestons, but I really enjoyed Spain as a mixture of the two approaches. Soto's narration was excellent as he spans English and Spanish effortlessly. 5 stars for me.

I loved Tremlett’s ‘Ghosts of Spain’, but this is, frankly, difficult to follow - the story of Spain is fascinating but this book is spoiled by the narrator who speaks way too fast with little nuance or modulation and, in a book narrated for English speaking listeners, infuriatingly uses impeccable but annoying Spanish pronunciations of names and places. Potentially great book but best read not listened to!
