Summary
Can country air, Aunt Jayne's love potion, and Duncan the dishy tractor driver mend Leah's broken heart?
Leah is accused of a crime she didn't commit. Dumped by Adam, the man she planned to marry, she escapes to Aunt Jayne's smallholding in the Kent village of Winkleigh Marsh. Heartbroken and homeless, she strives to clear her name and deal with her emotions.
Jayne treats Leah's unhappiness with herbal remedies, cowslip wine, and common sense in equal measure. In return, Leah works hard for the delicious home-cooked meals they share. She wrestles with sheep, breaks nails, and gets stuck in the mud - learning as much about herself as she does about farming. Soon, Leah is happy milking cows, mucking out pigs, and falling halfway in love with Duncan, a dishy tractor driver.
Back in London, steps are being taken to investigate what's happened to the missing money. It looks as though the real embezzler must soon be unmasked, and Leah will have to choose between resuming her old life or starting a new one.
That's when her problems really start.

Escapist literature at its best
I read “Escape to the Country” as an ebook when it first came out so I jumped at the chance of a review copy of the audio version.
I have to say, it’s not as good as I remember. It’s better! I’d forgotten how good the characters are and Claire Storey does a great job bringing them to life.
This is escapist literature at its best. I’d much rather be in Winkley Marsh than doing the washing up.

Fun
I enjoyed listening to Claire Storey, brings the characters to life.
I smiled and laughed listening to this great book

Christian Romance?
Spoiler alert:
Unsatisfying, unrealistic romance that probably Christians might be happy with because the romance is so tame nothing really happens. Leah comes across as a doormat, very compliant to her abusive ex's wishes and willing to take him back despite everything. The 'M word' is flown about and she's meeting the parents of the new love before they've even said they were girlfriend and boyfriend, and done nothing more than kiss. I'm not sure why this is labelled under 'Mystery', it is very clear from the start who the culprit is for the fraud, so you're just waiting for it to be revealed to get it out the way. Huge emphasis is put on Leah and her ex not telling their company they were in a relationship and living together, however the company in reality already knows because they would have sent out company correspondence to both of them at the same address. In an investigation that would have easily come to light, but apparently the company in this case were clueless. It ends weirdly with Leah making a big deal about a lie regarding the love interests name. From a readers perspective the author makes it obvious who he is from the start so Leah's reaction comes across as way over the top. The book wasn't necessarily boring, it was just very unrealistic and frustrating to read because you knew what was going to happen already so there were no surprises. There were also some audio issues with the narrators voice volume going up and down for some reason.
