Eros è l'ultimo romanzo del periodo preverista di Giovanni Verga. Pubblicato nel 1885, ebbe un certo successo di critica, anche se non di pubblico. Dotato di tratti indubbiamente scapigliati, il romanzo racconta la storia del Marchese Alberto Alberti, fin dalla sua primissima formazione.
La vita, ma soprattutto gli amori di Alberto, lo condurranno a un finale tragico ma scontato. Suddiviso in 50 capitoli, Eros è la rappresentazione più autentica del Verga che troverà, successsivamente, con I Malavoglia e il ciclo cosiddetto dei "vinti", la sua più assoluta consacrazione.
