This book was written for my colleagues who have voiced their concerns about their careers and years of intense training slipping from their grasp. This book is for every person who visits a US doctor for any reason. You should know what is really going on with the people who are listening to your most private health concerns. Are doctors being crushed by the modern medicine wheel? Are they too distracted and rushed by their jammed schedules to even hear what you came in to discuss? Are doctors being used for their education, training, and surgical skill to turn a profit for large health-care systems and insurance companies? Do they feel held hostage by their burden of educational debt?

I interviewed doctors from different specialties, from different parts of the United States, at different points in their careers to get some perspective. I wanted to get some answers from those who practice medicine every day and get their unique viewpoints - not just as doctors, but as people. Physicians may practice only in their own field’s unique environment. Most doctors stay so busy that it can be tough to compare their own experiences with those of other doctors in different fields in other parts of the country. Patients may have a misconception that the doctors have “made it” and have achieved an abundance of wealth with the title “Doctor”, while in actuality, the opposite is true.
