Summary

On a sullen July day, ten years on from the terrorist attacks of 7/7, a confident and optimistic British Prime Minister is attending a charity engagement in the East End of London. Suddenly, a man appears from the crowd and shoots him three times in the chest.

So starts this sensational thriller from best-selling novelist and screenwriter, M J Arlidge (BBC's Prime Suspect, the DI Helen Grace novels).

Predictable but enjoyable

From the first half of the first episode, the eventual killer was easy to predict. But that said, the story was well performed, written well and was interesting enough to keep you listening. A fab freebie from Audible - thank you

Pretty poor

All around when you compare it to similar BBC produced content. Not engaging, repeat gimics ... lost interest after episode 3.

Atmospheric

Good start. Tense and dramatic leaving each episode on a cliffhanger. Nice clearly spoken, a Godsend to me, then I can figure out each character and who they are etc

Like an audio only version of 24 or Homeland . . .

If you have watched shows like 24 and Homeland or read similar books this series will feel really familiar. It is a very fast paced thriller that I found to be utterly compelling. I even found myself learning the names of the characters to a greater extent than I do with many TV shows. The plot and story arcs, no spoilers, may feel a little vanilla generic if you are a veteran of similar shows. However I think this is a sound choice (pun intended) for this audio only format. It keeps one aspect relatively simple and executes everything else really well.

Top cast wasted on below average script.

Disappointing. After persevering thus far, I'm abandoning the rest. I wish I had done so much earlier. I don't think I will be purchasing any more audible ORIGINAL dramas. Better to stick to audiobooks by quality authors and original dramas/adaptations by R4.

Flimsy

I expect spy/crime dramas to have exagerrated plots, with unlikely things happening. But this goes way too far. The premiss of the story is absurd, and the plot has too many impossibilites in it(wont give examples in case you want to try this story anyway). There are very good actors and very good scriptwriter at work here but neither had enough time. The whole thing is seriously undercooked. Not enough work in honing the plot/scipt,and not enough money spent in either script development or execution (pardon the pun). Acting all a little shouty. If you want to succeed in this initiative, Audible, you'll have to throw more money at it.
