The truth is not too many people actually realize what EQ is really all about and what causes its popularity to grow constantly.

Scientific research conducted by many American and European universities proves that "common" intelligence responses account for only less than 20 percent of our life achievements and successes, while the other more than 80 percent depends on emotional intelligence. To put it roughly: Either you are emotionally intelligent or you're doomed to mediocrity at best.

As opposed to the popular image, emotionally intelligent people are not the ones who react impulsively and spontaneously or who act lively and fiery in all types of social environments.

Emotionally intelligent people are open to new experiences; can show feelings adequate to the situation, either good or bad; and find it easy to socialize with other people and establish new contacts. They handle stress well, say no easily, realistically assess the achievements of themselves or others, and are not afraid of constructive criticism and taking calculated risks. They are the people of success. Unfortunately this perfect model of an emotionally intelligent person is extremely rare in our modern times.

Sadly, nowadays the amount of emotional problems in the world is increasing at an alarming rate. We are getting richer but less and less happy. Depression, suicide, relationship breakdowns, loneliness of choice, fear of closeness, addictions - this is the clear evidence we are getting increasingly worse when it comes to dealing with our emotions.

Good content, but didn't like the narrator

What did you like most about Emotional Intelligence?

Having listened to a couple of other EQ books so far, this seemed to have the most comprehensive contents yet. It was informative and helpful.

Who was your favorite character and why?

N/A

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Completely personal opinion, but I found the narrator's voice and accent annoying. I'm from the UK, and whereas many American narrators are easy to listen to, I personally found this chap's voice grated on me. There are also many times where it comes across in the narration that he hasn't read and understood the content first, so some bits are read a little awkwardly. If this book had a different narrator I'd definitely listen to it again as the content is good. Maybe I should buy the paper copy instead...

Incredible! !

Without a doubt the best book I have ever read. Well written detailed exercises that actually work. I have read the book 6 times now and look forward to reading it many more times. It has been the most helpful information I have ever found!

Very Good Information

I've just recently discovered the topic of childhood emotional neglect (CEN) and am beginning to see things in a new way. This book is an amazing tool to build the emotional intelligence that most of us weren't taught as children. Thank you Ian.

Emotional Intelligence

Great read, I have never left a comment in reviews before and am doing so because this book made me want to tell someone about it. The exercises are so simple but immensely powerful. I plan on buying a copy of this book just to be able to page through and go over exercises. Ian, I hope you are still reading every comment and jumping for joy. you wrote a great book that will help many people.

Terrible narrator, hard to follow on audio

The narrator is terrible, poor inflection and tone make it difficult to concentrate on the message. The message makes a lot of references to exercises and tables, the book would be easier to follow.

Very expressive and a must read

The book was about emotions and how you can control you’re emotions it talks about how to deal with emotions and ways you can stop feeling sad by distractions it also talks about paradigms and how you can change how you feel by changing you’re memory it talks about relationships and how people’s emotions effect how our relationships work it talks about how self judgments affect how we feel and he insists you to not self judge he says that 90% of things we say are not self opinions he talks about mirror neurons and how if we feel sad others may feel sad to and if we feel happy others will be happy emotional intelligence is the ability to deal with emotions and express them. This book was very helpful but I read lots of books and it could use some improvements

Great Message!

The author provides a number of reinforcing strategies to find and learn to trust in your inner strength! A no nonsense approach to developing greater self respect, which is the foundation for respecting others. The more you work on improving the relationship with yourself the more appropriate your relationship with others become! Thank you Ian!
