About this listen

Recently orphaned, young Rose Campbell is sent to the "Aunt Hill", where Uncle Alex, her six aunts, and seven boy cousins live in noisy confusion. It is nothing like the quiet girls’ boarding school that has been Rose’s home for the past year. Surrounded by a bewildering array of pets, relatives, and unfamiliar foods, the fragile girl wonders if she will ever get used to this new life. Fortunately, Uncle Alex is her guardian. He keeps the aunts from coddling her too much, and makes sure that she has plenty of time to play outside with her cousins.

Day by day, learning how to care for each of these people, Rose begins to bloom. Eight Cousins is a charming introduction to Louisa May Alcott’s timeless classics, which include Little Women and Little Men. Barbara Caruso’s colorful narration perfectly captures Rose and her extended family.

A heart warming tale. Some bits were a little outdated and should be taken with a pinch of salt (which is understandable considering when it was written) but otherwise a very pleasant story.

Heart warming tale

Enjoyed the story - perfect for a lover of Little Women or a younger future lover of Louisa M Alcott!

Lovely story - ideal for a young girl.

Excellent expressive narration.
Roses uncle ( an early feminist I think) expresses his contempt for whalebone stays and threatens to throw them the fire!
He introduces a skeleton into the household instead, to the horror of the aunts and to the delight of Rose who wants to learn anatomy.
The uncle and several aunts argue good naturedley about how best to bring up a young orphaned niece to be happy & healthy. - For children or adults with the interest of children or even to be read to children, this thoughtful tale is enlivened by Rose’s 7 boy cousins.
At age 66 I enjoyed it as light relaxing reading and recommend it to you, although LM Alcott needs no introduction or recommdation to most of us.

Beautifully innocent tale of a girl growing up surrounded by a bundle boy cousins
