About this listen

Elite paratrooper Sgt. Don Malarkey takes us not only into the World War II battles fought from Normandy to Germany, but into the heart and mind of a soldier who lost his best friend during the nightmarish engagement at Bastogne.

Drafted in 1942, Malarkey arrived at Camp Toccoa in Georgia and was one of the one in six soldiers who earned their Eagle wings. He went to England in 1943 to provide cover on the ground for the largest amphibious military attack in history: Operation Overlord. In the darkness of D-day morning, Malarkey parachuted into France and within days was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroism in battle. He fought for twenty-three days in Normandy, nearly eighty in Holland, thirty-nine in Bastogne, and nearly thirty more in and near Haugenau, France, and the Ruhr pocket in Germany.

Easy Company Soldier is his dramatic tale of those bloody days fighting his way from the shores of France to the heartland of Germany, and the epic story of how an adventurous kid from Oregon became a leader of men.

Simply amazing, the HBO serious doesn’t do what these men went through justice. Incredible group of individuals.

This is a fabulous read/listen, and complements nicely Dick Winters’ memoirs and of course the HBO Band of Brothers series. Thoroughly enjoyed this.

I've always been fascinated by ww2 and the stories behind it. the men of easy company and their leader Richard Winters were beyond doubt some of the finest fighting men of ww2. I've watched band of brothers countless times and I'm currently half way through again and hearing the first hand experience of those that were there is humbling. Don Malarkey and his brothers gave everything to give us what we have today. this book is so engaging and it feels like you were there alongside them in the foxholes. a wonderful story of grit, determination, leadership and love which pulls on the strings and makes us not forget. I will admit at times it brought me to tears and being Irish like Mr Malarkey we are sometimes emotional charged. my son is 9 and knows just as much about these guys as I do and that's what we have a responsibility to do, Tell there story and tell it again.
