About this listen

From the preface: "When I was four years old, I was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a neuromuscular disease that results in the progressive weakening of the skeletal muscles and eventually the heart. I started writing poetry when I was 13 years old, not long before I began relying on a wheelchair to get around. Dynamic Parts contains a few of the poems I have created since then.... Dynamic Parts covers diverse topics, including nature, life, death, leisure, and love."

"Defibaugh's debut collection features stylistically and thematically diverse poems written over his 16 years in a wheelchair." (Kirkus Reviews) "...[H]is poems cover a wide selection of feelings and experiences, both his own and those he perceives of others. Some poems are quite short, almost haiku-like, while others have stanzas and refrains and seem almost epic-like in their fullness." (Jack Magnus, Readers' Favorite)
