About this listen

Kenna needs a way out.

Captive south of the border with Jax the subject of intense interrogation, there's no way she'll risk escape without setting them both free. When their captors put her in the middle of a dangerous turf war, Kenna wants nothing to do with negotiating a truce...

Or being left behind.

Kenna is dragged along for the ride, partnered with a suspicious former colleague, and tasked with a dangerous assignment whether she likes it or not. With rescue just out of reach, Kenna is pushed to the breaking point: keep fighting, or finally surrender.

Her brand of justice is the only way to save her family.

All the thrills—no cliffhanger (promise).

Another great story by Lisa Philips. I am a 76 year old lady with severe rheumatoid arthritis and mostly bedridden. I have been binging on Lisa’s books since they first appeared on Amazon. Long may she continue to write such brilliant stories.

Wish I could give her stories more than 5 stars

I've come to love this series and I never say that lightly.
It's much darker than my usual books but you won't find victims here. They are survivors making some of the broken places their strengths and just dealing with the rest as best they can.
I say 'they'; it's all through Kenna's eyes, who must face again her worst days ever, but she is not alone this time. Jax and all her team go through it too with tendrils of crime and malice from the past back to rend at her life and mind once again. Trafficking, torture, abandonment, betrayal, distrust... the evil leaves scars. Yet underneath there is hope, help in strange places, a rising up and overcoming, battered and wounded, to win through.
As with Phillops' books there's a strain of Chistian faith. If this is not your thing then this may not be for you, but it's a light touch and, like the violence, not gratuitous.
Performance is sufficient but the voicing can go astray (a pet peeve with audio books) leaving one a little confused over who is doing what and why on occasions.

Hard subjects well handled

I love the way that the writer didn't force God on us from book one rather she made it lifelike that Kenna was gradually realising who God is. I am a Christian who loves books like this where God isn't forced on the readers but at the same time isn't a side plot that doesn't do anything, the fact that the writer made it so natural was amazing for me.

I loved the way Kenna found God in die small silent moments not in die heat of everything.
