Summary

Driftnet is a thrilling crime novel by Lin Anderson and the first novel in the series about forensic scientist Rhona MacLeod.

Summoned in the early hours of the morning to a Glasgow flat, forensic scientist Rhona MacLeod is confronted by a horrific crime scene. A teenage boy has been found mutilated and strangled to death by a vicious killer.

But her grim task of scanning for evidence is made even more unsettling than normal by the boy’s remarkable resemblance to her – and by the fact that she gave up a baby boy for adoption 17 years ago....

Overcome by guilt, Rhona sets out to find the boy’s killer and establish whether the young victim is her long-lost son. In doing so, she finds herself immersed in an investigation that seeks to expose a dark underworld that preys on the young and vulnerable. As the case builds it soon becomes clear that some very powerful men have a lot to lose if she succeeds, and everything to gain if she dies.

Tartan Gothic

The narrator is terrific! She seems to do a wide range of Scots accents believably. This differentiates the characters admirably.
This is not great literature but it is entertaining if you’ve a strong stomach. The protagonist Rhona MacLeod is not as endearing as the deeply flawed Rebus but this is Glasgow (apologies from Edinburgh graduate!)

Loved it!

Great story with plenty of character build up and intricate story. Love the narration, good to hear a nice strong female Scottish voice. The real Glaswegian humour and vernacular makes you feel you are there. And the best bit is that this is only the first in the series!

Characters u can care about, good story, suspense

This is the first decent crime story I've read in quite a while. I loved it: characters u care about, a pretty horrible crime but not too graphic, suspense. That's all I ask, but it is not easy to find! Her books r a little shorter than some I've read, but those 12 hr books, if they're full of annoying filler such as reminders of someone's continual physical or mental pain or ruminating --u know, I can do without that drivel. I read this genre for escape, and have enough of my own pain and unwanted thoughts! Ok, so thanks to Lin Anderson for a very entertaining book and to the narrator for her lovely delivery of the story. I bought all the rest of this series available on Audible during the sale. This review is written after listening to only 2 books. Hope the magic holds.
