Summary

Lavish parties. Committee chairmanships for sale. Pay-to-play corruption. Backroom arm-twisting. Votes on major legislation going to the highest bidder.

Congressman Ken Buck (R-CO) is blowing the whistle on the real-life House of Cards going on behind the scenes in our nation's capital. Elected in 2014 as president of one of the largest Republican freshman classes ever to enter Congress, Buck quickly realized why nothing gets done in Congress, and it isn't because of political gridlock - in fact, Republicans and Democrats work together all too well to fleece taxpayers and plunge America deeper into debt.

"It is an insular process directed by power-hungry party elites who live like kings and govern like bullies," Buck reports.

Buck has witnessed firsthand how the unwritten rules of Congress continually prioritize short-term political gain over lasting, principled leadership. When Buck tangled with Washington power brokers like former Speaker John Boehner, he faced petty retaliation. When he insisted Republicans keep their word to voters, he was berated on the House floor by his own party leaders. When other members of Congress dared to do what they believed to be right for America instead of what the party bosses commanded, Buck saw them stripped of committee positions and even denied dining room privileges by the petty beltway bullies.

In Drain the Swamp, Buck names names and tells incredible true stories about what really happened behind closed doors in Congress during legislative battles that have ensued over the last two years, including budget, continuing resolutions, omnibus, trade promotion authority, Iran, and more.

Political information junky

Must listen.!!!! The corruption, the bullying, billions of dollars that we as taxpayers are paying, going to a lot of everything else...things that don’t make sense. Not any intention of fixing the budget. 20 trillion dollars in the hole. It’s like the ELITE, Our leaders are doing this on purpose. It’s disgusting.

Important book with good suggestions. Audio skips

If you could sum up Drain the Swamp in three words, what would they be?

Really good book on the topic and one that is sure to create more waves. Problem with the audio skipping Chapter 9 entirely--tried several times to play that section, all skipping.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Not about characters?

What three words best describe Brian Holsopple’s voice?

Solid, strong, smooth

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

not applicable

Any additional comments?

I hope Audible will get a clean copy of the complete audio because Chapter 9 is important. Rating would be much better for performance if the audio were complete. I also recommend the text copy to see more information not included in the audio version.

Congressman Brave enough to Share the Good & Selfish things in Current Gov’t

Enjoyed the candid perspective of this man & his true story of his leadership & elected career in congress so recently. It’s worth thinking about, is straight forward & non-time consuming. 👊🏼

Everyone should read

This books was very informative and I enjoyed that both parties were critiqued! The action items at the end gave me hope that my children and their children can live in a country that is balanced, equitable, and strong for each of its citizens.

Listen, then...

...listen again. Then follow the author's plea to get involved.
This is one of the best examples of clear political thinking that I've read/listened to.

Wow eye-opening

This is a book every American should read. Both Republicans and Democrats. It exposes the corruption within the House of representatives and the Senate. I know we all knew it was there, but I had no idea how bad it really was.
