Summary

The Resistance struggles to find a way to defeat the Dragonia Empire; all hope seems lost against the dragon riders, until they discover an island full of wyverns.

Devarius has lost everything. His parents murdered, his sister kidnapped, and the new village he called home: destroyed. The Dragonia Empire has gotten out of control, destroying anything and everything in its path searching for the Resistance.

Devarius is left with little choice but to find the Resistance, join them, and hope he can help them defeat the Dragonia Empire once and for all to bring peace to the land of Kaeldroga.

A fun adventure.

The Narrator transports you to this world created by an Author that has written an interesting creative story with a good sense
of humor.

Since this is a Audio Book the performance is the most important factor and with a variety of accents and a good understanding
of the material delivers on all counts.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Like Action, adventure, and dragons? Then lissenup

A fun adventure that is long enough to satisfy, and short enough that you can enjoy all in one go if you are so inclined. I got this book, due to the awesomeness that was Price's Crimson Claymore, and was happy that I continued to listen to more of his stuff. He is one heck of a writer; he knows how to craft a story, create down to earth characters, and keep your attention.

The very first thing I am going to comment on is that I absolutely adore this cover. For me, it looks like a throwback to the days when Larry Elmore painted 90% of TSR's stuff. That cat could paint a dragon. Here the dragon is not cartoonish, and carries the look of a real threat. It oozes menace, and anyone shopping for a new fantasy novel would stop to check the book out. I actually wish he had used this kind of art on the Crimson Claymore. Great story, but mediocre cover at best. This cover shouts READ ME!!!! so, excellent choice.

Next the narration; Corbett is a narrator I have not heard before, but this dude has some serious pipes. His voice is gripping, it grabs you by the lapels and pulls you in close so that you don't miss a thing. His characterizations, accents, and performance are at level 8 or 9. I really need to hear more from him before I can really say that he is one of those guys that he's got real staying power. Looks like he's done about 7 books so far, so this clearly isn't his first rodeo. I look for more big things from him.

Price pieces together a gripping story that starts at just the right spot. We enter as a village is being destroyed for its connection to the resistance. The band that we follow is small, just three people, and each plays an integral role in the story. Devarius, Aquila and Paden (not sure how to spell since this is audible) flee with other survivors, and begin to actually search for real resistance members so that they can fight back. The story is tight, perfectly paced, and holds your attention like a clock that is counting down for you to win a million dollars. I think I have found a new writer to keep an eye on, as his first book was really good, and now this one proves that Price was not a one hit wonder. I know look forward to the audible release of The Obsidian Arrow, book two of the Crimson Claymore series, and Dragonia: Revenge of the Dragons, book two of this series. Do not miss out on a wonderful author and his amazing stories. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

A fast-paced start to a fun-looking series

I really liked this. The author wasted no time getting into the story, and never let up the pace. The characters were likeable, the plot was solid and there was plenty of humour. There was a ton of dialogue, which is usually good news for audio books, and the narrator nailed his part of the deal with a variety of accents, and keeping the story flowing. An excellent listen for an audio book.

Engaging tale...

Let's start with the narration. I found it to be excellent and the narrator's voice fit the story quite well. On to the story. I thought it started a bit slow, but quickly picked up. I loved the vivid descriptions, which really helped put me in the book itself. I love when the author helps me see pictures in my mind, and this author definitely did that. The story was engaging, and any fantasy fan will find something they like about this book. Recommended. I received this audiobook for free and have voluntarily left this review.

Listen Past the Prologue for a good story

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. The narrator was perfect. The prologue almost stopped the presses then chapters one and two picked up a little then on to the end. Filled with action and several plot twists this story is one of a group of people who think they are better but run up against a group who do know better. So many of the descriptions were so well told that I could actually see what was happening.

4/5 Start to a Larger Epic Tale

Summary: Devarius and a rag-tag band of refugees flee oppression at the hands of the evil empire. For years, the Resistance has bided its time, trying to build, hide, and build some more. Devarius and crew just might give them the edge they need to rise up against the Dragonia empire.

Additional Comments:
- Plot 4/5 – It’s a tried but true plot: the evil empire beating up on everybody and the pure of heart standing against the oppression.
- Pacing 3.5/5 – A huge chunk of the book covers the search for the Resistance. In hindsight, this could have been summarized in a chapter or two because the “real” action doesn’t really happen until they reach their destination.
Side note: Various characters from the Dragonia Empire have bit parts in here, but none really stand out enough to become familiar. I like their parts, but I think the page count could have been evened out a little more to focus on their motivations.
- Characters 3.5/5 – Devarius is a decent enough fellow. I imagine most readers will end up caring about his fate. I don’t remember the love interest’s name, the first lady, or the sidekick. I do remember the sidekick managed to annoy me on several occasions.
- The love angle 2.5/5 – Nearly every conversation with the love interest goes like this “I want to come. I can help.” Devarius – “You can’t come. I can’t think around you.” Love interest - *frustrated brooding* “Okay, fine.”
- World-building 4/5 – I love all the details here. The different powers for the wyverns are really awesome. Dragons stand out quite a bit.
- Final Battle 4.5/5 – Well-described and epic. (Motivation for the battle stands on shakier ground, but it’s still a great fight scene.)
- Narration 4/5 – Nicely handled.
- Closure 3.5/5 – There’s an unspoken “to be continued” on this story. Personal preference, I need more closure than that. It’s a good pausing place, but there’s so much left unsaid and undone.

Conclusion: There’s definitely more to the story. If epic fantasy is your thing, check out the Dragonia series.
*I received a free copy of the audiobook, but I have freely chosen to review it.

Ridiculously Good!

I'm fairly certain this story was created with sorcery, because I couldn't stop listening! This is one seriously fast paced action fantasy. Fun Characters blended with great action scenes and a story line that keep you hooked work together to make a top notch book.
I loved this story from chapter one and am eager to continue the story with book two. The narrator did a great job and was great at differentiating between characters and made this listen very entertaining!

Crag A. Price Jr. has created a world that I will be visiting time and again!

Slow start but becomes an interesting storyline

Devarius has lost everything due to the government that rules over the land. Him and many others are searching for the resistance to join them and help overthrow the government by all means possible. I would have given this 5 stars but there are times there were too many dialogue tags that weren’t needed or things that could have been worked into the dialogue. It does start a little slow but there is some really good character development and a very interesting storyline.
