Enjoyed, but I wouldn't recommend to anyone who hasn't been. Quite ironic given the author (as portrayed through the narrator's voice) seems to have a bit of a gripe over the impact of tourism in certain spots.

I feel the book requires the listener to have a reasonable degree of understanding of the amazingly varied physical geography of the South Island and to have personally experienced a number of the locations described. Without this context the story is a bit lost.

As a past tourist, I feel a little more educated in certain aspects of the South's relatively short history.

Only for those who have visited, ironically.
