About this listen

David Mitchell’s 2014 best seller Thinking About It Only Makes It Worse must really have made people think - because everything’s got worse. We’ve gone from UKIP surge to Brexit shambles, from horsemeat in lasagne to Donald Trump in the White House, from Woolworths going under to all the other shops going under. It’s probably socially irresponsible even to try to cheer up.

But if you’re determined to give it a go, you might enjoy this eclectic collection (or eclection) of David Mitchell’s attempts to make light of all that darkness. Scampi, politics, the Olympics, terrorism, exercise, rude street names, inheritance tax, salad cream, proportional representation and farts are all touched upon by Mitchell’s unremitting laser of chit-chat, as he negotiates a path between the commercialisation of Christmas and the true spirit of Halloween.

Obviously a great book

Loved the book and very well presented.....even if I don't always agree with his point of view!

Excellent book but an intelligent observer.

It was intelligently written, eloquently delivered, funny, witty and very enjoyable, I love this book.

There are two David Mitchells who write books and I like them both. One of them writes long winded semi-comedic nostalgic novels that often have a hint of the supernatural and the other is the TV funny man who appears on panel shows with people such as Lee Mack and is a bit posh. This book is by the TV funny man David Mitchell who is a bit posh. When I saw the title I thought it was going to be all about telling porkies. Well, it is to an extent but it also covers musings on other subjects that are seemingly unrelated topics such as, and I am doing this from memory, Monopoly dinosaurs, uncomfortable theatre seats, salad cream, Brexit (naturally) and different types of Nurofen with claims of curing specific ailments even though they are all the same. It is great that David Mitchell narrates this himself, that is the TV funnyman David Mitchell and not the; oh never mind. There are some genuinely laugh out loud (or LOL) moments in this and it is political too. He might well be spot on that United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson (best to be precise in case there are any other Boris Johnsons) appears so foolish that it may be playing into his hands by calling him a fool. I will certainly never call him a fool again. Or is that exactly the trap that he wants us to fall into? Maybe David Mitchell (that is the TV funny man not the other one) wants, being, your know, a but posh and all that.

More hilarious musings from TV funny man

I very rarely feel interested enough in anything to share my opinion on it but found this book honest, funny totally entertaining and would strongly recommend.

Fantastic
