Summary

Eduard, ein reicher Baron im besten Mannesalter, und seine Frau Charlotte sind ein liebendes Paar. Denn Eduard und Ottilie fühlen sich unwiderstehlich zu einander hingezogen und auch der Hauptmann und Charlotte hegen tiefe Gefühle für einander. Während viele von Goethes Zeitgenossen "Die Wahlverwandtschaften" als unmoralisch ablehnten, gilt der Roman heute als erster psychologischer Roman der deutschen Literatur, der überaus differenzierte und tiefe Einblicke in die menschliche Seele gibt.
