Summary

Theatre world in 1920 Berlin

Sound historical background, an amazingly differentiated view in the twenties kept me spellbound. Caroline Nehr always wanted to be an actress. Nit a character you will like straight away, headstrong at times, impulsively acting. She jumps on a tram in the spur of a moment to become an actress in Berlin, however initially going to Baden-Baden as she hasn't got the full fare to Berlin. She says of herself, that she hasn't got a heart and all her actions are entirely selfish. Carla, as she calls herself so that her name hasn't got "similarity to a cow", gets involved with Brecht. She however marries her "Fredie" Klabunt, finding something like a home with this small wiry man. He writes a play for her, which is s complete flop, only to end up again as Berthold Brecht's lover. Fredie dues if tuberculosis, and Carla's future is about to change.
