About this listen

She put her life on the line for her family. But now it’s time to pay the price.

All Malee wanted was a better life for herself and her son. And the only way she could make that happen was to sell her body. But her plan falls apart when she arrives in London at the start of the COVID pandemic. She risks everything to support her family - but as the country goes into lockdown, she runs into Russian gangsters who have their own plans for her. Before long the Russians are forcing her to work for them. If she refuses, they’ll kill her.

Now it’s not about working for a better life - now it’s a matter of survival.

I'm a big fan of the author and I'm working my way through his books on audible. This is very disappointing compared to his other books I've listened to. It is more like diary of a call girl than a suspense thriller. There is just no excitement to the story.

Can't fault the narration by Megan Soh but feel her job was made difficult due to the lack of quality in the story.

Can only assume that the author was either limited due to lockdowns during writing or pressed to meet a deadline to produce a new book.

Disappointing Compared to Author's Other Work

The diary of a young Asian girl trapped into what started out as a solid enterprise and turned into a nightmare. Didn’t really enjoy it but stuck with it to a very quick and hurried ending… not one I would recommend and certainly not typical Stephen Leather, who can’t be considered repetitive but in this case too far removed from expectation.

A complete step away from what would be expected

While listening to this I had to keep reminding myself who the author was.
A very different book from the usual type.
If someone had asked me to read/listen to this then guess the author, I don’t think I would have guessed it correctly.
All in though, a decent story and well read too.

Quite a surreal reading.

Cannot believe that Stephen Leather wrote this book. The story was like being in a loop. Far too much trifling detail about how much money the hooker was earning. Very good if you want to brush up your basic addition and subtraction skills. I struggled to see it through to the end, just to satisfy myself that all the previous eight and a half hours had actually been about something meaningful as far as a plot was concerned. The narrator was ok, but must have had to work hard to stay awake.

Boring drivel.
