Summary

Der Advokat Coppelius und der Vater des Studenten Nathanael betreiben alchemistische Experimente, die für den Vater mit dessen Tod enden. Seitdem leidet Nathanael unter einem Trauma, in welchem er ein Monster sieht, das Kindern die Augen herausreißt - den Sandmann. Nun glaubt er, den Sandmann in Gestalt des Händlers Coppola wiederzuerkennen, da dieser Coppelius sehr ähnlich sieht.

Nathanael bekommt Panikattacken und leidet unter Angstzuständen. In seiner Verwirrung gewinnt er immer mehr die Überzeugung, dass das Leben von einer höheren Macht gesteuert werde und erst die Tochter von Coppola reißt ihn aus seiner mentalen Lethargie. Er macht ihr den Hof und bittet schließlich um ihre Hand, aber noch ist ihm nicht bewusst, in was für einen pechschwarzen Abgrund er im Begriff ist zu blicken.

Die Stimme des Erzählers ist unaustehlich.

Ich kann nicht die ganze Geschichte mit diesem Vorleser anhören. Eine monotone und unsympatische Stimme. Wenn das die qualität von amazons audible ist, war das das letzte Mal, dass ich etwas bestelle.
