Summary

Norah McNamara thought she had found the perfect man.

Sure, he had his anger issues, but given his charity work, she believed Clayton Matthews's good qualities far outweighed the bad.

What she didn't count on, however, was the secret life he lived behind the scenes of his generous organization.

Harley Andrews is damn good at his job.

An ex-cop turned private enforcer, Harley is brought in to investigate Clayton Matthews; instead, Harley finds himself putting everything on the line to protect the bastard's beautiful fiancé. After an unforeseen attack during one of Clayton's charity banquets, Harley throws himself into a spray of bullets to protect Norah.

And as Norah finds herself thrown into Clayton's dark world, she discovers she has only one man to count on, and it's not her fiancé. Because as it turns out, Clayton Matthews was quite the charitable bastard.

Great romantic suspense with plenty of surprises!

This was a great romantic suspense story with lots of twists and surprises throughout, I loved the main characters almost instantly and despite the attempts to pull them apart they kept trying to find their way back to each other. I actually would've liked a bit more of the romance as the action seemed to take over in parts. Jessica Wayne is a new to me author and I will definitely read more of her books. Vicki did well with the narration but I felt it might have been better with a younger voice as it felt like the narration didn't quite keep to pace with the speed of the story. Overall this was an exciting and intriguing story that I would recommend. #audiobook obsession

Deceived by Jessica Wayne, narrated by Vicki Pierce. The name of the book pretty much sums up this story, and while your listening to this story you will agree this young woman was deceived. Vicki injected life into this action filled, suspenseful, intriguing, slow burn romance.

Full of Romance and suspense

This is my first ever book from this author. I thoroughly enjoyed the catch from the beginning, and the suspense throughout the book. It kept me guessing until the very last page. The narration was also amazing.

Action packed romantic suspense!

Just when I needed a good, action packed romance, Jessica Wayne brings me Deceived. This is a fast paced, suspense filled thriller with steamy passion and a villain you can't wait to see get his own! Norah and Clay are attending a fundraiser when all of a sudden they are being shot at. Harley, a special agent saves Norah, and we begin to see the evil web that has been woven by Clay. Norah is a strong and beautiful woman, and I think was totally underestimated. Harley is one you can't help but love. Protective, honest and loving, this agent is the one you want taking care of you. Their attraction is palpable and the need to bring the deception to an end necessary for their lives to move on. The danger is high, they can trust no one, and their love will pull them through. The edge of your seat thrills keep the tension high and the passion hot. Vicki Pierce brings it all to life, with the many characters. She does a good job with the voices and for the most part the story flows. At times there are a few pacing issues, but her ability to give the suspense and thrills is spot on. It's my first listen of her narration and I look forward to more!

Enjoyable

This was my first book by this author and it was enjoyable. While I did think it was a good story and characters had good development I found the story a bit slow for me. I personally like more suspense and action while this story had more build up and romance. As for the narration again I feel that it was ok. I didn't dislike but it didn't blow me away. I again did enjoy the listen but did think it added to story. Over all it was a good listen. #audiobookobsessionreviewer

Action and Suspense Abound

Audiobook review. The story was full of action and suspense right off the bat with a mystery behind the relationship that Norah and Clayton had and a jaded Harley coming to Norah’s rescue. It remains steadily fast paced throughout and definitely hooks the reader. It was a testament to how good people can get caught up in some crazy stuff. The writing was good and the imagery done well. This is the first time I’ve heard the narrator, Vicky Pierce, and the voice would’ve been stronger with more inflections. She sounded a bit raspy and I’m not sure if that’s a characteristic of her voice or if she was perhaps getting over being sick but the result was that her tone was on the lower side. Aside from that she did a good job and was clear in her diction. Complimentary copy received and voluntarily reviewed.

The charitable b@stard

A really solid suspenseful romance. Plenty of action to keep the story flowing nicely. Don’t go into this one hungry because you will lust after pancakes covered in peanut butter. I would recommend this to fans of security/lone-wolf cop romance. 🎧AudiobookObsession

Exciting

A life built on lies will always shatter. From the outside, Norah has the perfect life. She spends her time volunteering in shelters, her nights wrapped in the arms of Seattle's most eligible bachelor. Every day since they met, Norah has tried to ignore the way pieces of her perfect are falling apart, still clinging to the notion that deep down the man she'd promised to marry was good. When a stranger rescues her, Norah is shoved head first into the dark underbelly of the world her fiancé helped build. And as the pieces of her life begin crumbling around her at a terrifying pace, Norah learns she has only one man she can trust. And he is not her fiancé. This book has it all murder, suspense. mystery, steamy scene and betrayal. This book was well written and the characters were well developed. I was so into this book. Vicki Pierce did an excellent job of bringing this great book to life! This is the first book I've read/listen to by Jessica Wayne but it definitely won't be the last! I can't to get my hands on book two! #AudioObsessionReview

Awesome Twists!

Deceived by Jessica Wayne really pulled me in with its twists. Norah is a very likable character while her fiancé, Clayton, came across as a pretentious bastard. I had mixed feelings about Harley in the beginning. The author wrote some great imagery in the book, but I still am uncertain about pancakes and peanut butter. The supporting characters in this book also really added to the story. Who to trust, what is real, why are all some of the questions I had. Vicki Pierce did a great job bringing the characters to life. I could hear who was speaking. Thank you Audiobook Obsession for this review copy audiobook. I loved it! I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

4 stars

This is a stand alone story, though the epilogue is entirely a lead in to what is I assume the second book. When Harley was introduced, his thoughts were very dark (not very likable), but that wasn't an issue for the rest of the story. Overall, I liked it and I would like to read/listen to more of this series. The narrator's voice sounded very mature and it took me awhile to figure out how old the characters were, since I tend to think of the narrator's voice as a character's voice and, in this case, the voice didn't seem to match the characters' ages. She did have a pleasant voice though and was nice to listen to. #AudiobookObsession

Entertaining, fun premise

I love this type of premise. Norah is on the run after finding out her fiancé is a truly horrible person. Along for the adventure is sexy ex-cop Harley to bring the steamy romance factor. Love the suspense that comes with this type of story; the dangerous situations the characters find themselves in, lots fun to be had. I wanted to love this, but it didn’t quite get there for me. Still an entertaining read though. Norah is a very gullible woman that just makes horrible choices; she calls herself an idiot multiple times in this books, so I really wanted to see her kick some butt. She didn’t quite get there for me. She has a big heart, but it leads her to most of her bad decisions; it blinded her to the obvious signs her fiancé was not a good guy. I wanted more growth from her. Luckily for her, Harley is the type that likes to save the clueless damsel. They have a good connection with sweet moments. Overall, I enjoyed the whole story; some of the actions by the characters didn’t make sense and the writing can be basic at times, but I liked it. I’d say this is a 3.5 rating, but I’m a sucker for premises like this, so it get a 4. I listened on Audible; it was good listening experience. The narrator didn’t fit the feel of the story or the characters fully for me, but she did an okay job. AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Good storyline

I liked the storyline and the suspense was agonising, I was so on the edge while listening. I didn’t find the author’s writing style all that good, it felt a little stilted and monotone. But i did enjoy the story. No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings Lots of dialogues Lack the intensity of a love story that’s passionate and heated but it was lovely enough. Narrator was good and had clear pronunciation. 🎧 AudiobookObsessionReviewer
