Summary

Life is good for DI Dan Hellier until the discovery of two headless, handless bodies buried in a bog on Dartmoor.

How can he identify the victims when nobody has reported them missing? The tension mounts when the death of a young man plunges Hellier into the murky world of the Garrett family. Could the peaceful, family-run Animal Rescue Centre really be a cover for murder and other criminal activity?

Hellier is about to learn just how far people will go to get what they want, as he races to catch a murderer before it’s too late.

If you are a fan of Joy Ellis, Faith Martin and LJ Ross, then you'll love Bernie Steadman's new West-Country Crime Mystery Series.

Please note this is a revised edition of a book previously published as Death and the Good Son by B. A. Steadman.

I must admit I’m still trying to get used to the same monotone voice by the narrator, but the storyline is good .. if the narrator could put a bit more expression into his narration , it would be first class book

A great book , full of intrigue

I loved this book. Well-developed characters and an excellent story line. It's a shame there are only three books in the series.

Another 5-star story!

I suppose you’d put this in the cosy mystery genre - not too gory but still dramatic. That’s the way I like it. The story was good and nicely original. I just felt the narration could have been much better - I found it difficult to get used to the rather rushed and flat voice. It did get much better … I’m not sure if that’s because I got used to his way of narrating or whether he got better at doing it.

Good story … not so good narration
