About this listen

Winter storms lash the Isles of Scilly when DI Ben Kitto ferries the islands' priest to St Helen's. Father Michael intends to live as a pilgrim in the ruins of an ancient church on the uninhabited island, but an ugly secret is buried among the rocks. Digging frantically in the sand, Ben's dog, Shadow, unearths the emaciated remains of a young woman.

The discovery chills Ben to the core. The victim is Vietnamese, with no clear link to the community - and her killer has made sure that no one will find her easily. The storm intensifies as the investigation gathers pace. Soon Scilly is cut off by bad weather, with no help available from the mainland. Ben must look beyond the islands to find a vicious killer. He knows they are waiting to kill again - and at unimaginable cost.

I loved this latest Kate Rhodes title and downloaded it to listen on audible. My only downside is that the narrator was different to all the other books. It was close, but it was a shame it wasn’t Stephen Perring.

Enjoy listening to this series always lots of twists and turns. The main character Ben negotiates a very hazardous and at times disturbing crime.

I didn’t like anything in this latest Ben Kitto story.
Putting aside, with difficulty, the subject matter of child trafficking, rape and the destruction of the Scilly Islands’ community spirit, I realised I don’t like Ben Kitto.
I had to put the audiobook aside last night, it was too tough a listen before sleep, so I finished it this morning.
Kitto’s character is cold, unfeeling, why on earth Nina married him is beyond me. Most of all I hate the way he treats Shadow his amazing dog, with disdain, doesn’t seem to care for him properly. An example,Shadow is guarding the baby outside his room in a cold corridor. Kitto doesn’t even give him a warm bed to lie on just sneers!

The story is horrific and shocking. That’s all I’ll say but I shan’t be buying any more Kitto books and I’ve returned this one.br />
