About this listen

Penguin presents the new unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Dead Men's Bones, the new gripping thriller from James Oswald.

Morag Weatherly and her two young daughters have been shot by husband Andrew, an influential politician, before he turned the gun on himself.

But what would cause a rich, successful man to snap so suddenly?

For Inspector Tony McLean, this apparently simple but high-profile case leads him into a world of power and privilege. And the deeper he digs, the more he realises he's being manipulated by shadowy factions.

Under pressure to wrap up the case, McLean instead seeks to uncover layers of truth - putting the lives of everyone he cares about at risk . . .

Do you have any additional comments?

After listening to some books which can only be described as ponderous drivel, it is truly wonderful to return to an author who actually knows how to write. A very good series, excellently narrated and a series which in my opinion will only get better.
Start from book 1 and you will become addicted. It helps if you are a fan of Scottish Crime, narrators and a story which often has a dark twist to it.

Excellently written, narrated series

I have left it for about a week before I write this review as I wasn't quite sure what to think when I had just finished listening. I have listened to all of James Owald's books and though the last one - the third book - in the series showed a great improvement in style of writing. Dead Men's Bones just left me feeling that the baddies got away with it.
I enjoyed Ian Hanmore's performance but have just one criticism and that is when he is reading a long sentence he tends to run out of breath and it is difficult to hear him, especially if you are driving.
As I was reading it I thought that there was a bit less hocus pocus in this book than the first three but maybe there was more?

I enjoyed it greatly but feel a bit unresolved

These are fantastic. I think I am in love with Inspector McLean.

I also think I've rumbled James Oswald's formula but I don't mind at all.

Do them in order, sit back, enjoy.

I thoroughly enjoy reading/listening to the Inspector McClean series.

I did feel that this book was a little less gripping as his previous ones, but a great book nonetheless.

Another good one
