About this listen

It's a race against time as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace tries to stop a grieving mother from taking the law into her own hands in Dead Man's Grip, by award winning crime writer Peter James.

A university student is killed in a tragic traffic accident while riding their bicycle. When two of the drivers involved are hunted down by a sadistic killer, Grace knows that the third driver, Carly Chase, may be next.

Carly, a solicitor, believes hiding is not an option and heads to New York to speak with the cyclist’s mother. But Grace knows about the mother’s underworld connections and that the family will stop at nothing to take an eye for an eye . . .

Although the Roy Grace novels can be read in any order, Dead Man's Grip is the seventh thrilling title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Not Dead Yet and Dead Man's Time.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

Critic reviews

Peter James has penetrated the inner workings of police procedures, and the inner thoughts and attitudes of real detectives, as no English crime writer before him. His hero, Roy Grace, may not be the most lively cop, nor the most damaged by drink, weight or misery, but he's one of the most believable
Peter James’s cop Roy Grace has put the Brighton of Graham Greene into the shade

Absolutely brilliant! Was disappointed with the last Roy Grace but Peter James is back on form with this one. As I have visual problems and can't read at the moment I often struggle to find audiobooks that are as gripping as the written version. However James' descriptions and characterisations are so well done that you get completely carried away with the story. Highly recommended .

I'd never read or listened to a Peter James novel before but now I am hooked. Roy Grace is one of the great detectives and all the more believable for not being a cliched drunk or divorced copper. This is a tense and gripping thriller and I will definitely be buying more Roy Grace novels in future.

Excellent Police Procedural story
