About this listen

Get ready for the new drama Midnight, Texas on SyFy UK from July 27th with the first book in Charlaine Harris's bestselling paranormal mystery series about a small town where only outsiders fit in . . .
Welcome to Midnight, Texas.

It's a quiet little town, perched at the junction between Davy Road and Witch Light Road, and it's easy to miss. With its boarded-up windows, single traffic light and sleepy air, there's nothing special about Midnight . . . which is exactly how the residents like it.

So when the news comes that a new owner plans to renovate the run-down, abandoned old hotel in town, it's not met with pleasure. Who would want to come to Midnight, with its handful of shops, the Home Cookin diner, and quiet residents - and why?

But there are bigger problems in the air. When Manfred Bernado, the newest resident in town, is swept up in a deadly investigation suddenly the hotel and its residents are the least of the towns concern. The police, lawyers and journalists are all headed to Midnight, and it's the worst possible moment...

Good but left a few things unanswered. Reader was good and kept you engaged the whole way through. Worth a read.

Good fun

I've really enjoyed listening to the weird and strange goings on of Midnight the only thing that is a little strange is how different the main character is from when you first meet him in the other series where you first meet him.

Easy to listen to

As with part 1 of this series, the story is fairly simple. The more obscure aspects aren't explored and the plot twists can be seen coming a mile off. Nonetheless if you are a fan of this author's work it has charm. The reader suits the style of the books, though the characterization gets a little lost in scenes with many characters. In conclusion: Pleasing if you like the style, but not a good introduction for new comers.

Goood, not great

What made the experience of listening to Day Shift the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed finding out more about the residents of Midnight and the tie-in to the True Blood series.
The story is classic Charlaine Harris, a little bit detective, a lot fantasy & supernatural.

What did you like best about this story?

Watching the characters develop and finding out more about them is always enjoyable. Some surprises and some revelations you saw coming. Lots of snippets of further stories to come. I hope.

What does Susan Bennett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

A good narrator helps build pictures in your mind, of how people look and sound.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Some of the revelations about Olivia's life, both past and present.

An engaging and light-hearted sequel
