Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850), französischer Schriftsteller, gilt als einer der wichtigsten Vertreter des Realismus. Sein Hauptwerk ist der 88 Titel fassende, unvollendete Romanzyklus "Die menschliche Komödie", worin er versucht, ein Gesamtbild der französischen Gesellschaft zu zeichnen.
