Meine Frau Anni fror als Mädchen oft. Auch heute noch, Jahrzehnte später, entschuldigt sie sich manchmal höflich für ihre kalten Finger, ehe sie jemandem die Hand gibt. Bei unserer ersten Begegnung im Winter 1940 war ihr auch kalt. Sie fror sogar so sehr, dass sie bei uns anklopfte, um sich aufzuwärmen. Ich war damals ein Junge von vierzehn Jahren, sie muss ungefähr zehn gewesen sein.
