About this listen

A tide of slain children. A hunt for a faceless killer. A clash of shadows and steel.

The Hunter of Voramis stalks a demon wearing human form. The discovery of a child slaughtered in a bloody ritual sets him on a path to hunt down the killers - and a collision course with the criminals that rule the Praamian underworld: the Night Guild.

Ilanna, Master of the Night Guild, faces a string of gruesome murders that threaten the peace of her city. The body count is rising, and a power-hungry Duke is eager to pin the blame on her and remove the Guild from power. She vows to unmask the culprit before more innocents are slain or, worse, her own followers wind up the next victims.

An immortal assassin and a cunning thief. Both are determined to bring justice to the slain at any cost.

As long as they don’t kill each other first.

An epic clash 10 books in the making! Worlds collide as the Hunter and Ilanna face off in a battle for the city of Praamis.

I have enjoyed this series not just because of the storyline but also because of the narrator. Marc Vietor is surely one of the most gifted narrators around! With a major female character in this book, I can see why it seemed like a good idea to involve a female narrator too. Unfortunately it was done in the cheapest way possible with the narrators reading in sequence rather than reading together. This means that the Hunter is not consistently voiced by Vietor, nor is Ilanna consistently voiced by Eyre. Add to that the fact it took a while to adapt to Eyre's voice and it meant that the listening experience was greatly diminished with this last novel in the series.
It is also worth noting that the whole Darkblade series has been overhauled by Peloquin so look out for the revised novels if you want to complete the story.

narrator change ☹️

Wasn’t to keen on the 2 narrators should have just kept the man that did all previous books.

Not as good as all the others.

We so looked forward to this book but I was disappointed in the change in narrative style. I did enjoy the story, it did feel more of a novella though.

Like we had all the previous book with the narration from Marc Vietor and no offense to Justine Eyre (she was fantastic) but it was a ridiculous time to change up the whole way the book is read. Neither myself or my partner could get into the choppy nature of switching narrator each chapter.

Loved the whole series but..
