Until the building of the South Holston Dam reined in the water, the Holston River was untamed. Before the time of the dam, battles and deaths up and down this stretch of water caused the river to flow with blood. The river was always known as dangerous, but even more so when it was in its flooding stage.
When these deaths occurred, there was one family who for over two hundred years, were the watchers for the river, calling the hounds for bad souls and praying for the angels when there were good souls. They didn't always come. Then, uncollected souls wandered, and strange things happened. But the living could be worse than the dead.
