About this listen

The start of a series from bestselling saga author Rosie Clarke.

Welcome to Dressmakers' Alley, a twisted place filled with dark and deadly secrets...

London’s East End 1923

In the heart of Dressmakers' Alley, Madame Pauline’s sweatshop is rumoured to be a particularly unpleasant place to work. Filled with seamstresses paid a pittance who turn a blind eye to what darker activities are hidden behind locked doors.

Young Winnie Brown is keen to prove her value to the Women Movement and secures a job as a seamstress to investigate the whispers of some unsavoury goings on. Her concerns are soon justified when she hears a desperate cry for help.

Meanwhile, happily married, Lady Diane Cooper is the darling of London’s high-society. Beautiful and talented, she seemingly has it all. But the strict constraints society assigns her leaves her frustrated, she craves more freedom. With the help of her devoted dresser Susie can she realise her dream?

What is the connection between Lady Diane's world and the poor exploited young women of Dressmakers' Alley?

Can the two worlds come together for the good of all?

Good story made you feel part of it, loved the different voices of the people the narrator gave

What a fabulous story line full of twists and turns, What else would you expect from Rosie Clarke. Such animated characters brought to life and references that link to her other amazing Mulberry Lane series which I followed from beginning to end to end. along with Harpers again I followed from the start hoping for a mother chapter to continue The Narrator was perfect. So I’m now off to start the next chapter in the lives of dressmakers alley

The start of a memorable journey

I enjoyed the story, but as other reviews pointed out, the narration was disappointing with punctuation just not right, there were too many pauses in the wrong places. I'll avoid this narrator in future.

Terrible Narration

I loved this first book in the Dressmakers Alley series. Another brilliant story from this wonderful author. And I really enjoyed the crossovers with the Harpers Emporium and Mulberry Lane books. I'm really looking forward to the next book, which is ready to go on Audible. Lovely narration too. I felt that it really brought the story to life.

The start of another great series by Rosie Clarke

The story is good with good plot and characters but it was hard to listen to because it was so badly narrated. It was just “read out loud” and some of the character voices were just not credible.

A good story spoiled by a bad narration.
