Dopiero co wyprawili z dworku starą klucznicę ("ostatnią białogłowę") i Rotmistrz błogo wzdycha: "Będzie raz przed się cicho i spokojnie", gdy nagle przed żołnierską samotnię zajeżdża kilka pojazdów. Nieproszone i niezapowiedziane, Majora odwiedzają trzy jego siostry, „jedna starsza i grubsza od drugiej”. Towarzyszy im Zofia - córka jednej z nich - i trzy panny służące.
