About this listen

Often considered one of the first ever psychological thrillers, Crime and Punishment is a gripping tale of a poverty-stricken young man in Saint Petersburg, Russia, who hatches a plan to kill someone for money. Once the deed is done, he finds himself racked with guilt, confusion and disgust for his act.

In this new recording, Will Poulter (Detroit, Midsommar, The Maze Runner) gives new life to the troubled protagonist, Rodion Raskolnikov, in a performance that will have you questioning where we draw the line between right and wrong.

Never managed to read Dostoyevsky before, so many long unpronounceable Russian names! However Will Poulter me made light work of those and effortlessly brought the characters to life with an impressive array of near flawless British regional accents (show me a better non-Scouser who can do a convincing Scouse accent and I'll give you a pound). Sad it's finished, looking forward to this great team's next efforts. Don't need to say anything about the book, it's obviously a masterpiece.

It took me few minutes to warm to Will Poulter's languid style, but his use of uk regional accents brought this Russian novel alive... really. The distinctive voices also helped greatly with distinguishing between characters who, in the traditional Russian manner, have at least two, or sometimes three (I think) quite different names depending on who they are talking to. A superb story as well. Definitely five stars all round. Recommended listening.

A great novel, well narrated.

This book is amazing. I wish modern books where written in this way, perhaps I'm reading the wrong books! Will Poulter's performance blew me away, he brought every character to life and made it easy to follow along with the narrative. I've never heard such a performance like this, it made me not want to stop listening to the book!
