If you could combine the fantasia of H.P. Lovecraft with Garrison Keillor's winsome folksiness, it would probably sound like Brad Strickland's tellingly titled An Arkham Home Companion. In a droll performance of his own work, Strickland delivers a clever pastiche of Keillor's down-home delivery while chronicling the tale of a boy from the town of Arkham who has turned into a monster, and the lives affected by his transformation. It's an odd and fascinating story that is enriched by Strickland, who manages to interject both a buoyant humor and a moving, poignant sense of humanity.
Summary
It's been a quiet week in Arkham, Massachusettes, up there north of Boston, where the hills rise wild. Garrison Keillor meets H. P. Lovecraft in this masterful blend of two classic, and yet completely opposite storytelling styles.
