Publisher's Summary

Something has always lived in Winthrop House.

After his book becomes a best seller, novelist Jack Ripley moves into a house on the edge of Cutler Harbor with his wife and two daughters. Nearly a century old, Winthrop House is newly-restored and boasts a gorgeous oceanfront view.

But everything is not what it seems.

Though picturesque, Jack learns that the house has been shunned for decades by the locals, owing to a number of mysterious disappearances and inexplicable deaths on the grounds.

The Ripleys begin to grapple with the property's vile reputation, learning more about its sordid history and experiencing strange things within its walls. What was once a dream home quickly becomes a nightmare for the family as they encounter the terrifying presence that has existed there since times immemorial.

A House By The Sea is a full-length novel of supernatural horror and suspense by Ambrose Ibsen.

    "Pretty creepy"

I like books that are scary enough to make me uncomfortable but that are not gruesome. This book is creepy enough but not gross in any way, sometimes the characters do things and make decisions that seem unadvisable,( like leaving their daughters alone in parts of the house even after they know its haunted)...however the book did not drag out too long, the characters were mostly likable, the narrator was not at all annoying. Overall I would give this 3.5 stars as a good book. If book 2 becomes available on audible I will listen.

I always love a good ghost book and this one takes the cake! Ambrose has this kind of supernatural horror nailed to the floor - he never disappoints. A great mix of mystery, spooks, fueled characters and a solid dose of generally fantastic writing. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a ghost story!

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

"A House By The Sea, by Ambrose Ibsen, Narated by, James Foster."

I thoughlry enjoyed this book. It was well written by Ambrose Ibsen.. It entails the story of a Author, Jack, his wife Darcy, and his two little girls. Jack decided to move out of the fast pase city they lived in and him having a case of writers block bought a large house by the sea with a beautiful view overlooking over the sea on the far Main Cost of New Port Road Island. He and Darcy thought the house, location and scenery was to be a new begining. He just knew this was were he could loose the block and being behind on his deadline was convinced he would have a new book for his editor in no time. Much to his surprise someone or something thought othlerswise. Join Jack and his family on this exciting new move for their new beginning. Not suitable in my opinion for the young. If you love to listen to Chillers late at night, this is for you. James Foster is an excellent Narrator.

Could not stop listening. Ended too soon. Wanted to hear more. The house must have been beautiful. This would make a good movie. I would certainly see it. Good read, good narrator, recommend for anyone who enjoys this category of stories.
I have listened to several other books by Ambrose Ibsen and have enjoyed each one. They have all been very entertaining and enjoyable stories. This one is no exception. It's an entertaining and interesting nice little creepy ghost story with a twist.

When a realtor tells you a house has strange past….listen!

If you like a good old fashioned ghost story you will not be disappointed. Loved the reference to his other book. That was a nice little way to put that in there.

James Foster does a fantastic job with the narration as usual. Love listening to books he narrates. Nice voice easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken. Nice even pace. Great character voices. He is able to pull you into the story and bring it to life through his narration. Very enjoyable.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher
What does James Foster bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I haven't read the book. I liked his performance.

    Any additional comments?

I like how the tension built after each "incident" that happened in the house. I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

    "slow starter but good"

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher. I am glad that I decided to finish this book. I was about halfway through and I almost gave up because it was a very very slow start for me. Once things picked up though I didn't want to stop listening. The narrator did a great job. Easy to listen to. At the end of the book, i definitely feel like I needed more, but that's the point of a series right. It left me wanting to read the next book.
